LGV Driver Apprenticeships Overview
For apprentices – The LGV Driver Apprenticeships programme is for those who wish to drive a large goods vehicle (LGV) professionally.
For employers – This programme is a great way for the road haulage industry and businesses with a lorry fleet to find new drivers, reducing the risk to businesses from the large shortage of professional drivers.
Depending on the size of your business, employers will be able to access government funding or use the Apprenticeship levy to pay for the training programme.
The LGV Driver Apprenticeships programme is a 12-month programme where apprentices will learn all aspects of professional driving as well as gaining their Category C and C+E licences.
During the training programme, apprentices will spend 20% of their working week off-the-job in training, this is either on our site with other apprentices or with their employer.
Throughout the programme, many of the modules will be delivered in Transafes LGV simulator, providing apprentices with the opportunity to learn in a safe and realistic environment. Apprentices will also undertake a range of masterclasses which are designed to provide a broad range of knowledge about the job, alongside building their skills and behaviours.
Apprentices must be 18 or over and hold a Category B licence, some may already hold a Category C licence.
Apprenticeships have no upper age limit and are available to existing employers.
The LGV Driver Apprenticeship is assessed through written and practical assessments.
